About Library

The central Library was established in 1959. It is automated with Open Source Library Management Software Koha. There are 30,000+ printed books and 15 printed journals in the library on array of subjects and disciplines. There are good collection of encyclopedias and reference books for the benefit of the stake holders. The bibliographic information is available through OPAC of the library.

The library is a member of N-LIST ( National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) consortium on INFLIBNET through which members of the library can access over 6300+ e-journals and 1,00,000 e-books.

 

KNOW YOUR LIBRARY: A USER MANUAL

 

Introduction

This manual entitled “Know your library” provides an overall view of the library facilities of AKPC Mahavidyalaya, Bengai. Through this manual the users can get an overview about the collection, rules and services provided by the library.

Background

The college was established in 1959. At the beginning there was a small room for library with a few collections of books in the 1st floor of the old administrative building of the college. Now the library has a two-storied building “Path Bhavan” with more than 30,000 collections.

Vision & Mission

  • Assist the students with the text books, study materials and reference books.
  • Build up the reading habit among the students.
  • Make them ready for higher education.
  • Assist the students to be acquainted with the use of e-resources.

Library Hours:

The library remains open from 10:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.

Borrowing Hours: 10:30 AM  to 3.00 P.M.

Membership Process:

  • ​Bring one passport-size photograph, fee-book, college I-Card of the college
  • Collect Library Card from the library staff
  • Fill up the card with pasting photograph
  • Give the filled up card to the library staff
  • After stamping the staff will return you the lending card.

Library Clearance:

All the 6th semester students have to return all books and collect clearance certificate before form fill up of university Examination and submit their library cards.

Library awareness as well as orientation programme:

Student Orientation Programme: In every academic session we organize an oreintation programme for the new students of out college. In this programme we provide information about our library collections and services, and guide them how to use the library.

Staff Orientation Programme: We also organize staff orientation programme for the teaching and non-teaching staff to make them aware about the new collection and services of the library.

Library Services:

1. Lending service

The required books are issued in Koha automated system by scanning the barcode of the books and the barcode of the member cards through barcode reader.

Lending Process:

  • Search OPAC for required books.
  • Fill up the requisition slip kept in the circulation desk
  • Give the requisition slip to the library staff
  • Deposit lending card to take the book for home issue

2. Reference service:

There is a rich collection of reference sources useful for students as well as faculties also. There are good collection of general reference books like encyclopedias, dictionaries etc and specific reference books like handbooks, guidebooks on specific subjects.

3. Open Access Facility:

All students, faculty and staff members can browse the shelves for their required books.

Browsing catalogue through WebOPAC:

The students and faculty of the college can search Koha WebOPAC from any corner of the earth to search the collection of the college library.

4. Reading Room:

There are two reading rooms in the Central Library. One is for the faculties of our college. They can consult the text books, reference books , printed as well as e-journals in the reading room. Another is for our students. Here they can consult text books, reference books, journals, career guidance books etc. there are three daily newspapers, one weekly newspaper and three periodicals on career guidance. There are also different collections like Religious Book Collection, Biography, N. K. De collection, Bengali literature and story books collection and Career Guidance Books Collection.

5. New Arrivals Display:

There is a new arrivals display rack where the newly arrived books on different subjects are displayed. A list of new books is also given to the notice board of the central libray.

6. Periodical section:

In periodical section there are different types of journals on different subjects related to our respective departments. The journals are not for loan or home issue. The members can read them sitting in the reading room.

7. E-Resources:

Our college has taken the membership of the NLISt Consortia of INFLIBNET to access e-journals and e-books.

8. Question Bank:

Central library collects and preserves the university question papers of different subjects both in print and as well as in e-format.

9. Arrangement of Books:

The books are arranged according to the subject following DDC number in their respective shelves. In a particular shelve, the books are again arranged according to the topic on the basis of DDC number.
